Improved Storyline

After looking at the idea of our story we decided that it was a bit typical. So, we decided to change it slightly. We wanted to make our story more interesting and dynamic so we decided to make the main guy black. This altered the storyline as we also made it a conflict between the main girls parents as they don't agree with it.
This will make our story more diverse and breaks away from the most typical convention. We think this will work as there isn't many films that produce this kind of story so it will make our film unique and exciting.

Initial Magazine Front cover idea

For our initial film poster we decided to just put the main girl as the star as most film covers do just have the main actor or actress. We decided to copy a Total Film title as it was easy and would be easily recogniseable. As the film title was red we thought we should keep the rest of the font in the same colour scheme.
After feedback from our class they said that they thought the cover looked a little bit more like a fashion magazine so we decided to take a more natural and fun looking photo.
We also decided to change the colour scheme because the red colour scheme doesn't really match the rom-com genre, so we will make it more pink and brighter.
Even though we are going to change almost everything about our film it was a good starting point so that we can find out what the audience want and what they expect.

Initial draft of our poster

We used Microsoft Publisher to create our film poster as we thought this best suited the layout and plan of our original idea. After researching rom-com posters we decided that using bright colours was an original convention and suited our genre well and would attract the audience. A problem we faced was that the names of our actors looked a little off balance so we changed them to make a better balance and equivalence and make the poster look more pleasing to the eye. We used a tag line on our poster which is a convention that isn't always used but it helps explain a bit of our story and is an interesting focal point for the audience. We put this underneath so that it doesn't take away the focus of the actors names and title. The billing block we researched into to find out what sort of things they wrote and made it up to something that is similar using our own names although we did use a real rom-com directors name to give more reality to the poster. We decided to say that the film was coming out in the summer as it was a teaser so there wouldn't have been a definite date. We also added a film website so that people interested could have a better look for more information. We are thinking for the picture to put the main couple on a bench with the title next to it so it is eye-catching and is different.

Magazine Front Cover Draft

This is the first draft of our magazine front cover. We decided to use Total Film as we thought using an established company would make it look more professional and easier to notice. We will use the main girl character for the picture as after films are released most magazines usually have an interview with the main star and we thought this would be a good introduction for our film. We will also include other features like free posters, other interviews and advertising things just like normal magazines do to give it a realistic look. We will use photoshop to digitally put all of the pieces together.

Teaser Trailer Research

I looked at a teaser trailer on youtube so that I could look at what rom-com teaser trailers are like and to get a better perspective of transitions, filming and storyline.
The teaser trailer is from the romantic comedy 'Valentine's Day'
This teaser trailer really works as it uses the quick cuts to create the sense of excitement and hype that also ties in well the fast pace backing track. There are many comical jokes put in the clips to make the film seem funny and appeal to audiences immediately.
The story isn't described exactly what is going on but we can tell from the genre and title what the immediate subject is going to be.
For our own teaser trailers we must remember to add in comical elements to attract the audience and concentrate on filming and cuts to get all the information we need but not give away the whole story.
