Institution Research

We decided to look at institutions as we found that this might help us to choose the right one for our film. We looked at three big different companies and chose what would be best to suit the audience and genre of our film. We decided on Paramount Pictures as it has distributed many romantic films so it would suit our film.

Paramount Pictures

Paramount Pictures, owned by Viacom it is the oldest existing film company. This is good as we would like to use a company that is well known and is good. It was founded in 1912 and in 2006 they became a parent company of Dreamwork. They have distributed many romantic films like, Titanic, Pretty in Pink, What Women want and Falling in love.

Warner Bros.

Warner Brothers is a subsidisary of Time Warner and has several subsidisary companies itself. It was founded in 1918 as Time Warner but as the years progressed there were other branches launched under the same belt and one of these was Warner Bros Picture.
They deal with dramas mainly so perhaps it wouldnt be the greatest company for our genre of film. It is a very well known company but as we want it to seem like ours is a romantic comedy perhaps its not the best for it.

Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures Entertainment is the television and film production, distribution unit of Japanese company Sony. Its group sales in 2010 has been reported to be of $7.2 billion. They overtook Columbia Pictures in 1989 and made it into Sony Pictures. They are obviously a very wealthy company and are therefore well known. These could be good as they are well known and would know what they are doing but they genre wouldn't be right for our film.

Romantic Comdey Film Poster Research

We decided to research actual rom-com film posters for inspiration and ideas for our own. Even though ive already rsearched film posters, looking at rom-com ones shows us what is specific to that genre.

This is so simple and basic but it makes the right impact. Where the usual billing block would have been it is all part of the dress. This shows that the dress is a main part in the film and as everything is part of the dress it shows just how important it is.

The title shows the audience that its about the man and he is a main part in the film. Its again quite simplistic with just the main characters in the foreground. With the women in the background blurred it puts even more focus on the main characters which is a good technique.

The Bridget Jones poster has the usual colours and main characters but the difference is the billing block is at the top rather than the bottom but this is so that the picture is more focused upon. The arrows are a great focul point and it is something that is quite different to anything else.

This poster keeps in the convention of the romantic colours. This poster instantly shows that it attracts a younger audience with the way she is positioned as she seems shy and immature.

This is another simplistic poster showing the two main characters and following all of the conventions with the actors names, billing block and title. This shows it is for an older audience though as the colours aren't the typical bright colours.

500 Days Of Summer doesn't follow the conventions of a typical poster. Everythign is in his t-shirt and this doesn't make anything stand out particularly. But the film itself doens't follow in the typical way either so perhaps this works as they reflect each toher.

Our Story

We have decided as a group that we would like to do a romantic comedy film. We decided this as we have already done a thriller and wanted to experience doing something different. We’ve decided on a name that we like: Imperfect Mr Perfect. This will instantly show the audience that it is romantic attracting our target audience that like these genres of films.

Our story is about a girl named Maria, she is a single girl looking for her perfect guy. As an independent girl she understands she doesn't have to settle for anything less than perfect. After seeing her parents inspiring relationship, their never ending love, she is desperate to get a taste of happy ending. She searched in all the wrong places and starts to wonder if there is such thing as Mr perfect. Her encouraging friends manage to persuade to go on one final date. It goes unbelievably wrong and it doesn't stop there. Her car breaks down on her way home and she is forced to take a bus, on the way to the bus stop while on the phone to her friend. A reckless bike rider ignores the road and focuses all his attention on Maria and unsurprisingly he falls over. Shockingly, completely out of character, Maria is impressed by this maniac and gives him a hand up. We could say love is blind! The chemistry is instant and their love is apparent, she shocks her friends including her parents with her new found love. Their bizarre relationship is annoyingly romantic and Maria starts to pick up his crazy hobbies. Love might be blind but Maria had found her Imperfect Mr Perfect!

Movie Poster Research- Layout of Poster

Most movie posters cover the same type of layout and structure. Some of the typical conventions they follow are:

- Titles are typically at the bottom of the poster
- With dates at the bottom
- If actors names are on the poster they are at the top
- A bold tagline would be at the top but not always

Most posters follow this as it is pleasing to the eye and the audience can recognise it easily.

Colours are specific to genre, like rom-coms are generally bright bold colours and action movies can be dark and mysterious. Fonts are also specific to genres and also to the plot of the movie. It's important for the colours and font to do this as it reflects the movie and gives an idea to the audience what it's going to be like.
